Since 2013, plans to make improvements to the R44 between Somerset West and Stellenbosch have been developing at a slow pace. In a 2013 article on this website, Techno Park’s Annermarie Cloete informed the Techno Park audience of this initial plan and what developments were envisioned.
On 3 April 2018, Techno Park received a formal notification by CCA Environmental, acting on behalf of the Western Cape Government: Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW), that the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning (DEA&DP) has issued an Environmental Authorisation for the above-mentioned project in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (No. 107 of 1998), as amended, on 29 March 2018.
